Wildfire Assistant Privacy Policy

Last Updated: April 2026

Introduction

Welcome to Wildfire Assistant. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile and web application for wildfire risk awareness and preparedness.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the application.

Information We Collect

Depending on how you use the app, we or our service providers may process the categories below. How we collect: data is collected when you type in the app, choose photos, interact with the map or location features, enable permissions, or when the app loads public datasets and talks to third-party APIs as described here.

  • Location and address data: When you search for an address or use the map, your queries may be sent to Google Maps (Geocoding, Places, Maps JavaScript API) to obtain coordinates and display maps. Depending on your device settings and how you use the app, approximate or more precise location may be used to show risk context. Google’s privacy policy applies to that processing.
  • User content and AI inputs (text): Messages you send to the AI assistant, including conversation context needed to respond, may be sent directly from your device to OpenAI after you consent in the app (see “OpenAI and your consent” below).
  • Photos and images: Images you choose to send for analysis may be sent directly from your device to OpenAI after consent. Do not upload images containing sensitive personal information you do not wish to share.
  • Location-related prompts: Text or context derived from map or location features (for example, when you expand a detailed risk report tied to a place) may be included in what is sent directly from your device to OpenAI after consent.
  • Local data on your device: Chat history, your AI third-party consent preference, and session data may be stored locally on your device (for example in browser or app storage) for continuity and so you can review or withdraw consent.
  • Wildfire data: The app fetches public wildfire perimeter data (e.g., NIFC WFIGS) from third-party sources; this is not personal data about you.
  • Device and usage: Standard mobile identifiers, IP address, and app usage may be collected by app stores (Apple, Google) or analytics as described in their policies.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information to:

  • Provide risk scores, maps, AI chat, image analysis, and location-aware explanations.
  • Operate and improve reliability, security, and fix technical issues.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

OpenAI and your consent

Certain AI features are powered by OpenAI, LLC. In the Wildfire Assistant mobile app, there is no AuroZeon backend for those features: after you consent, requests go directly from your device to OpenAI’s APIs over encrypted connections. AuroZeon does not receive, route, or store that AI request or response content on our servers for that flow.

Before any of your content is sent to OpenAI for processing, the app shows a disclosure and asks you to agree. Only if you tap Agree and continue will text, conversation context, photos you submit for analysis, and location-related prompt content be transmitted to OpenAI as needed to provide those features.

You can open the same disclosure at any time from the shield control in the chat header to review it or withdraw consent. If you withdraw consent, new AI requests that require OpenAI will not send your data until you agree again. Withdrawing consent does not erase data already processed by OpenAI under their policies; see OpenAI’s documentation for retention and rights.

OpenAI processes data according to its own terms. Their privacy policy is here: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy/. We do not control OpenAI’s practices; this Policy describes our relationship to you and the flow when you use the Service as configured.

Third-Party Services

The app relies on third parties including OpenAI (for AI features subject to your consent), Google Maps Platform, and public wildfire data providers. Their collection and use of data are governed by their respective policies.

Disclosure

We may disclose information where required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell your personal information.

Data Security

We implement reasonable measures to protect information. For the mobile app’s OpenAI features, traffic is between your device and OpenAI; no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Contact us using the information below.

Children’s Privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date will be revised accordingly.
